Mrs Hotwire and Planchita join Team Steam as countdown to Hastings Half Marathon begins

With five days to go, Team Steam is gearing up for the Hastings Half Marathon Extreme Ironing Challenge. Two more red-hot competitors are confirmed as part of the team: London-based Planchita (left) and Manchester-based Mrs Hotwire (right).

PlanchitaBoth ironists are new to the sport, but are not content to be also-rans and add an interesting dimension to the field, that includes extreme ironing stalwarts Steam, Hotwire, Fe, Flex and Ultraglide. Ex army officer WaterTank and novice ironist Mrs Steam complete the competitor line up.

The event is the first of its kind, combining ironing garments with hot irons, supplied by Philips, with running a half marathon. The overall winner is the ironist who completes the course in the fastest time, with minutes deducted for high quality ironing and ‘extreme style’. The nature of the event creates a tactical dilemma: to spend time getting the perfect press or to finish ironing as quickly as possible and return to the race.

Mrs HotwireThe three ironing stations are at The Ridge, Harold Road and All Saints Street in Hastings. The Hastings Lions-organised Hastings Half Marathon takes place on Sunday 25th March and starts at 10.30am.

As an entirely new discipline, there is only one thing the competitors that complete the event can count on: a personal best!

  1. Do you have any photos of your team on the Hastings Half Marathon? I was running and totally full of awe at people running with ironing boards on their back! I’d love to feature you on my sewing blog: didyoumakethat.wordpress.com
